Advocacy and policy reform
Influencing ministries of education, labour bodies and regional networks to embed identification, inclusive teaching and workplace accommodations into national frameworks.
Who we are
Africa Dyslexia Organisation is a Ghana-based, pan-African nonprofit working to improve educational and life outcomes for children, young people and adults with dyslexia and related learning differences.
Africa Dyslexia Organisation
Across the continent, learning differences remain one of Africa’s most overlooked drivers of low literacy, school dropout and unrealised workforce potential. Millions of children and adults with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and related learning differences go unidentified; teachers lack the evidence-based tools they need; families face stigma; and education and workforce systems lose talent they cannot afford to waste.
ADO works across educator capacity development, early identification, family support, research, policy and advocacy, technology, inclusive education and workplace inclusion. Through collaboration with schools, universities, governments, researchers, development partners and practitioners, we strengthen the systems around learners so that difficulties are recognised earlier and the right support becomes more accessible.
Our work aligns with SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 8 (decent work) and SDG 10 (reduced inequalities).

Our mission
To empower dyslexics to become productive citizens whilst avoiding their marginalisation in the formal education sector and labour market.
Our vision
To build a world-class organisation dedicated to helping dyslexic people and those with specific learning differences across the continent of Africa.
Our goals
Influencing ministries of education, labour bodies and regional networks to embed identification, inclusive teaching and workplace accommodations into national frameworks.
Working with schools, governments and institutions so multi-sensory literacy approaches are accessible and adaptable, helping every learner succeed.
Supporting the journey from school to skills to employment, with employers, TVET systems and public-sector partners creating inclusive pathways to decent work.
Resources, tools and support systems that help families, educators and dyslexic individuals navigate education and work, while reducing stigma.
What we do
Media campaigns on radio, TV and social media, workshops, webinars, conferences, books on dyslexia and our Dyslexia Advocates Fellowship Programme.
Lobbying for legal and policy frameworks that protect people with learning differences. ADO sits on the technical working group reviewing Ghana’s Inclusive Education Policy.
Online courses, certified and customised teacher training, train-the-trainer programmes, inclusion audits for schools and workplaces, and referrals for assessment and intervention.
Virtual mentorship for students across Africa, plus parent support groups, parent education and referral services.
Researching and developing better methods, interventions and policies for dyslexia and related learning differences.
Needs assessments, tailor-made teacher training, setting up inclusive education units and developing resources for the African context with partners in the USA, UK, Canada and Nigeria.
A growing network of schools, teachers, institutions and professionals building a sustainable ecosystem for dyslexia support across Africa.
Our future project
ADO is working to establish an ultramodern Dyslexia Resources Learning Center in Ghana within the next three to five years: a model hub for research, training and talent development in Africa.
